Equality Act 2010
The Equality Act 2010 came into force on 1 October 2010. In summary it draws together all previous discrimination leglisation as well as adding some new provisions. These include:
- new forms of discrimination - "associative" and "perceptive"
- Strict regulations regarding the use of pre-employment health questionnaires
- The banning of salary "gagging" clauses in employment contracts
- Employer liability for discriminative acts by third party contacts e.g. customers, sub-contractors, suppliers etc.
